Gilbert Lee Barden

July 11, 1936- October 1, 2023

In loving memory of Gilbert Lee Barden, 87- Born in Baltimore Maryland July 11, 1936, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023, at the Blaire House of Tewksbury.  Prior to this Gilbert was a long-time resident of Billerica, Lowell, and Lawrence MA.

Gilbert is now at rest with his parents Seth Kerwin and Irene Messerschmidt Barden, his sister Mavis Goodwin and brothers Reginald, Kerwin, David, and Donald E. Barden. 

Gilbert is survived by his sisters Patricia Hill of Chelmsford MA and Carol Vaughn of Nashua NH. Children: Survived by his daughter Debra Lee (Barden) Cartier of Sandown NH and her fiancé Glenn Wollinger, his son Christopher Lee Barden, and his wife Bridget Barden of Haverhill MA. Grandchildren: Anthony Barden of Nashua NH, Kara Lynne Malenfant and her fiancé Dennis Stringer of Dunbarton NH, Brandon Barden of Methuen MA and Laura Barden of Dracut MA. As well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Gilbert had a passion for life and enjoyed antiquing, fishing and exploring the outdoors.  He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and admired the music of Johnny Cash. In his later years he found peace and comfort with feeding the wild birds and squirrels at the community park within the Greater Lowell/Lawrence communities.  He was known for his tenacity, his grit, his unwavering ability to be free and challenge the status quo.   Gilbert was undaunted and led his life without judgment.   He was kind, caring, and had a great sense of humor. He was a loving father, brother, and uncle and will be deeply missed by all.

The Family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the care and comfort their father received at Blaire House of Tewksbury and New England Hospice.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 5th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rte. 3A), Billerica.  The funeral service will take place on Friday, October 6th at North Billerica Baptist Church 39 Old Elm Street N. Billerica at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Interment to follow at North Cemetery.
